OUT NOW! THE SOUTHERN BEACH TERROR "WAVE OF BLOOD" LP

OUT NOW!!!

For the sake of holy Poseidon and the lurking deep-sea creatures…

After long delay in the production finally we present you the seminal debut album that never saw the light of day until NOW!

Wave of Blood is the first full length from the one and only garage-surf rock legend hailing from the ancient city of gods.

Recorded in the dark summer of 2005, Wave of Blood collects nine songs of pure lo-fi, fuzzy tunes about mythical creatures, zombie beach party and the mighty queen who occupies the south sea.

This collaborative release with the highly acclaimed Jakarta-based Elevation Records, showcased in amazing gatefold sleeve featuring beautiful artworks from the greatest artists of our time such as Wedhar Riyadi, Arian Arifin and Irfan Hakim Lubis.

Remastered at 45 RPM for maximum sonic experience, this album is nothing but a must for every slave of hypnotic riffs! Definitely a collectible item in the years to come.

Limited to 107 copies in traditional black wax!

PRESS RELEASE FROM ELEVATION RECORDS:

***
Kami punya kepercayaan bahwa “the only good band is a dead band”.
Buktinya? Tentu saja album debut “Wave of Blood” ini.
Lo-fi as fukk.
Enjoy the journey exploring the depth of the southern sea.

Last-minute Delay

Sincere apologies to everyone waiting for the Southern Beach Terror vinyl. I know last minute delays are extremely disappointing, especially with so many great artists and supporters involved. Every effort is being taken to make this update happen as soon as possible.

Based on the report we received on November 20, the printing shop had a problem in the process of making the gatefold cover (modern printing shop nowadays do not have experience in making gatefold sleeve), so the guy at the printing shop decided to restart/remake the cove. Unfortunately, there's nothing we can do except waiting, waiting and waiting with potential headaches.

To cope with this situation, we decided to send out the t-shirt first. The shipment has begun on Monday. Hopefully the gatefold sleeve can be finished before New Year's eve.

Best regards,
SxF

PRE-ORDER SOUTHERN BEACH TERROR 'RIDE THE WAVE OF BLOOD' 12" VINYL

Southern Beach Terror first emerged during the summer of 2005 in Yogyakarta. This band, being hailed as the first surf-rock revivalist in Indonesia, is strongly influenced by The Ventures, The Shadows, Dick Dale and His Del-tones, Eka Sapta, Dara Puspita and of course The Ghastly Ones.

They grow cult-like fans with their everlasting jargon "low budget rock" that encourages many bands and fans to put aside all bullshit about money and profit.

After series of riding the wave of waste and blood, compilations and split EP, the band recorded their first full length album in 2006 but somehow never saw the daylight. The album contains 9 songs of classic, full of reverb and fuzz-driven sound that was nearly vanished since 20 years ago. The master file of this debut album was buried in time and civilization, but we decided to open the casket and praise the holy riffs.

An effort was made…

Sonic Funeral and Elevation Records are proud to present you the lost material on 12” vinyl the way it should be heard. This album is cut from the original master and housed in gatefold jacket featuring artworks from great artists such as Arian Arifin, Wedhar Riyadi and Sulaiman Hakim Lubis.

THE HARDER THEY COME: KOMUNAL - PANORAMA 12" VINYL REISSUE PROJECT

At last, the masterpiece debut album from the most ferocious Indonesian heavy metal band Komunal has been found. Komunal released their debut album Panorama in 2004 in cassette format through now-defunct Hamson Killer Records.

Like other monumental album did, the Indonesian heavy metal scene would never be the same again. The debut album, which contains nine classic songs, is a mix between stoner doom, punk and heavy metal which was sounded very bold ahead from their local contemporaries.

They developed their own style without trying to be someone they are not. After all these years, the cassette version is pretty hard to find. The price sky-rocketed. Only few had survived and the master file was lost.

After series of effort to find the master file, Sonic Funeral Records is proud to announce that we will be working a reissue project of this masterpiece on 12” vinyl format slated for 2014 release to commemorate their efforts and mark the 10 years of the album.

The original master file will be re-mastered by Brad Boatright (Sleep, Sunn O))), From Ashes Rise, High on Fire) of Audiosiege in Portland, Oregon.

We have also appointed the genius Morrg to work his magic to create the artwork.

Once again, the Indonesian heavy metal scene would never be the same again.

Sonic Funeral Records Got Featured in The Jakarta Globe

Sonic Funeral Records got featured in The Jakarta Globe on March 17 edition. Thanks to Marcel Thee for the kind of opportunity...
Metal Label Sonic Funeral Bringing Local Bands to Life
With a name like Sonic Funeral, you would think this Jakarta-based independent label’s interests lie in the hard-hitting and grotesque. But as founder Adi Renaldi makes clear, Sonic Funeral’s dark moniker is merely the result of a self-compromise the 26-year-old made to himself. “I just liked the way the word ‘sonic’ looked and sounded and had planned on naming the label Sonic Church, but I ended up not going with that as I was worried the name might be misconstrued,” he says. A previous homage to the bloody Charles Bronson revenge flick “Death Wish” was also discarded.
Born in Yogyakarta but “shaped in Jakarta,” Adi’s interest in music began after his older sister introduced him to gloriously groomed soft metal acts such as Def Leppard and Firehouse; disposable rock that was as easy to dive into as it was to grow out of. His voice cracking and his artistic drive burgeoning, Adi found his true calling through rejecting what his well-intentioned sister had fed him. “I realized that I needed more powerful, radical and aggressive music to grow up with.”
Like many other hair-slinging music aficionados, Adi tried his hand at playing in bands with various friends, but each time his innate restlessness got the best of him and he quit. “I did not want to get stuck at only [playing] one kind of music,” he says.
It took a while before Adi had enough clout to form his own record label, but by July last year he felt he had enough know-how to release records. And it wasn’t going to be just any kind of records; Adi’s one passion for vinyl meant that Sonic Funeral was only going to release records in that particular format.
“I love records and other musical artifacts aside from the music itself. Plus, it feels so great to witness my favorite local acts hold in their hands a physical release [instead of a strictly digital one], especially on vinyl. Those are the reasons why I run a record label.”
Adi doesn’t hold his label too highly and is always open to submissions. His motto is ultimately, “If there is a band I love, I will persuade them to join the label.” Sonic Funeral’s current roster mostly consists of underrated-but-talented acts that are yet to receive the attention Adi thinks they deserve. Recently the label released limited edition records by Matiasu and Wicked Suffer, who are, to be fair, metal acts.
“Sometimes I listen to pop music. I also love indie rock with its delicate sound of guitar and soft voice,” but he admits, “my focus right now is on metal and rock bands.”
For now, Adi plans on releasing only records by local acts, a conscious move to keep the focus homeward. Adi has no aspirations beyond releasing records that he loves “just for fun and to satisfy my ego.”
But he refuses to engage in discussions regarding the local music scene. “I don’t feel like I have a mission to ‘enforce’ the scene. I only hope to release more records outside of rock and metal, it is as simple as that.”

Coming Up Next! Wicked Suffer 2nd EP 7"

Sonic Funeral will release the second EP from Yogyakarta's legend-in-the-making Wicked Suffer. They are currently working on mixing and mastering with Will Killingsworth (The Men, Holy Molar, Bucket Full of Teeth, Das Oath) of Dead Air Studios, Amherst, Massachusetts.

The production is expected to begin this midyear.

Adios!
